Although nowadays it is a costume party, where children and adults collect and eat large quantities of candy, the origins of Halloween, which takes place on the last day of October, are not so joyful and its roots go back to an ancient Celtic festival more than 3,000 years ago.

The holiday arrived as such in the United States and Canada in 1840, via Irish immigrants, but did not begin to be celebrated on a mass scale until 1921, when the first Halloween parade was held in Minnesota.

Today, the only spooky spirits you'll see this October 31 will be the witch and ghost costumes worn by our friends and family.

SPECTACULAR ASTRONOMICAL PHENOMENA OF THE SUMMER

 

The June solstice is the astronomical phenomenon that marks the arrival of summer in the northern hemisphere and the beginning of winter in the southern hemisphere. This year, it will occur on Sunday, 20 June at 22:32.

This will be the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, with 13 hours and 25 minutes of sunlight, a pattern that will diminish as the year progresses, until it reaches its antithesis, the shortest day on the winter solstice.

Summer will also mark the farewell of the biggest and brightest moons of the year.

The last supermoon of 2021 will take place on 24 June.

The Perseids are one of the most eagerly awaited astronomical phenomena of every summer in the northern hemisphere. This shower of stars originates from comet Swift-Tuttle, a distant visitor to Earth that completes an orbit around the Sun every 133 years.

When the debris of dust, ice and cosmic rocks that it left behind during its last passage hurtles towards our planet, it causes meteors to streak across the celestial vault in a matter of tenths of a second.

Also known as the Tears of St. Lawrence, the Perseids are the third most intense meteor shower of the year.

 

The gas giant of the Solar System will reach its closest point to Earth and the best time to observe it on 19 August, just two weeks after Saturn's opposition.

Jupiter will appear brighter than normal once night falls in the east.

Peace Day, why is it celebrated on 30 January?

Since 1965, every 30 January has been the date chosen to commemorate the death of Mahatma Gandhi, India's pacifist and spiritual leader who defended non-violence and resistance to the injustice to which his people were subjected. In 1948, he was shot dead by a Hindu fundamentalist.

The idea came from the Spanish professor Llorenç Vidal, who wanted to promote education in and for tolerance on a day like today under the slogan "Universal Love, Non-Violence and Peace". This Saturday, 57 years later, schools and educational centres are once again becoming instruments of peace and understanding between people regardless of their race, education, culture or religion.

SPECIAL CHRISTMAS DAYS

December, December is a month with  many traditions.

Customs and traditions

Street lights, ornaments and Christmas trees and carol choirs.

The tree and the Bethlehem are important in the Christmas decoration of Spanish homes.

The family gathers for dinner and they sing Christmas Carols and Songs. They usually prepare special dinner with turkey, seafood and delicacies that are not eaten every day. The families that celebrate Santa Claus, give the gifts that same night and the most religious attend the Mass of the Rooster that is celebrated at 00.00 to commemorate that God was born.

Christmas Day is celebrated on December 25. Most families get together to eat and have a nice time. One of the traditions is to eat Nougat.

New Year's Eve: tonight is celebrated on the last day of the year. At 00.00, everyone is attentive to television since they are the bells. Tradition orders to eat a grape with each bell.  Then we have a glass of champagne.

You have to wear red underwear and put a ring in the cup. This gives us good luck  all year.

On January 1, families meet again to celebrate the first meal of the year.

Finally, The Three Wise Men arrive in Spain on January 5. They give gifts to all the children during that special night.

Our school sings Carols and prepares dances too.

APRIL FOOL'S DAY

On April 1 is celebrated in the United Kingdom April fools' day, the day of the innocents.

It is a day dedicated to jokes, and to celebrate it is not strange to find several "news" in the British newspapers somewhat different, and some interesting announcements ....

The equivalent in Spain is  the Holy Innocents' Day , which is celebrated on December 28. April fools', the day of jokes on April 1 is celebrated in several countries, including Italy, France, Dimanarca, Germany, Switzerland ... So if you walk around London or any city in the UK on April 1 you see something that seems a little strange to you ... you know why!

HOW IS CHRISTMAS CELEBRATED ?

The most important party of the year is -- CHRISTMAS DAY -- in the United Kingdom.
The British usually start up with two months in advance to prepare the  lunch on December 25th.
They send christmas cards to their relatives.
During Christmas Day , the food can be  :
                                         The traditional turkey stuffed with chestnuts or roasted   with sage and onion,
                                         The cranberry sauce, Cooked Christmas ham (caramelized  in the oven),
                                         Stuffed Scottish salmon, 
                                         The Stilton (a kind of blue cheese),
                                         The Christmas Pudding or Plum Pudding,
                                         The Christmas Cake,
                                         The Mince Pies
                                         Nuts cakes,
The glass of milk, accompanied by cookies, placed on the  fireplace for Santa Claus.
The Boxing Day is equally important that the Christmas Day, in which the English can enjoy the winter sales, attend sports games and give Christmas gifts to the needy. 
The crackers, a kind of surprise cookie, near their plates, which contains paper wreaths and small gifts.
Children also sing Christmas carols to collect money.
In U.S.A. winter sales are very popular.

Miguel is a child who dreams of being a musician, but his family forbids him because his great-great-grandfather, musician, abandoned them, and they want to obligate to Miguel to be a shoemaker, like all family members. 

By accident, Miguel enters the Land of the Dead, from where he can only leave if a deceased relative grants him his blessing, but his great-great-grandfather refuses to let him return with the living if he does not promise that he will not be a musician. Because of that, Miguel escapes from her and starts looking for his great-great-grandfather.

On 24th December, we celebrated Christmas Eve. We have a special Dinner with our family. This family reunion is very important and happy.

All the family sing Carols.  After Dinner we go to the church and we participate in the Midnight Mass .

Finally, we kiss The little Baby Jesus that is a figure.

Some villages or town have Living Native Scene.

When is it celebrated in different countries?

In Ireland is celebrated on the fourth sunday of May.

In United Kingdom , this date changes every year. It's celebrated on the fourth sunday after Lent.

In Wales is celebrated on March 26 this year. This day is three weeks before Easter Sunday , so the day changes every year. The children carry small flowers for their mums from the fields.

In USA is very important day. The children have vacations. It's  celebrated  on the second sunday of May.

In Spain is celebrated on the first sunday of May

A galaxy is an enormous cloud of stars and other celestial bodies.

Galaxies have got different shapes.

Our galaxy is called MILK WAY.

A star is a celestial body with a spherical shape. It made of gases and it produces light and heat.

Our solar system includes the Sun and all the celestial bodies .

Planets are large spherical bodies that revolve around a star (Sun).

The Sun is the star at the centre of our  Solar System. The Sun looks like small in the sky, but it's  a giant compared to the Earth.

THE EARTH
We live on this Planet .
It is the third planet in order from The Sun.
This planet has got one satellite. It's called "Moon". We always see the same side of the Moon. The Moon is much  smaller than Earth.
The Moon sometimes passes between The Sun and Earth. This is a solar eclipse.
The earth has got two movements : Rotation and Revolution.
It's a sphere .
The earth rotates constantly in the same direction.
It takes twenty four hours . It causes day and night.
The earth revolves around the Sun. It takes one year.
Life on Earth began in the oceans.
Its atmosphere is a mixture of gases:  Nitrogen, oxygen, water vapour, carbon dioxide...
